On March 4th, 2019, students and practitioners were invited to join NYSOTA at Maria College in Albany for a night of issues, updates and pizza.

MSOT student Becky Cox, who was recently appointed Legislative Affairs Committee Coordinator, provided attendees with an update on regional initiatives and the newly developed NYSOTA committees. Becky shared some of NYSOTA's legislative successes, such as OTA licensure, telehealth parity, and changing the Practice Act to accurately reflect the dual entry for OT practitioners to allow the Education Department the flexibility to grant licensure. NYSOTA was also instrumental in the repeal of the Early Intervention regulation that disallowed the evaluating therapist to be the treating therapist. Becky also shared current legislative issues with attendees in preparation for Advocacy Day.

NYSOTA's Executive Director, Michelle Scanlon, introduced herself to the group and updated attendees about the association's future and dedication to renew, revive and rebuild.

Newly elected AOTA Board Member, Dave Merlo (OTA representative) greeted the audience with AOTA updates and the importance of advocacy. He discussed the role of the Representative Assembly (RA) and the current motions to be discussed at the upcoming AOTA conference. The RA is currently seeking feedback on the motions. Please visit the following link to review the motions and share your thoughts with your New York RAs:
